![]() I loved it, and later, when I had an Amiga, Wonderboy in Monster Land was the first game I bought with my own money. My personal introduction to the series was when YS gave the original Wonderboy away on a tape. The episode also yielded this graph, which is actually quite restrained - it could be twice the size if you include all the rebranded versions. All Adventure Island games after that were Hudson doing it for themselves, iterating on the sort of Caveman/Tiki theme of the original game instead of heading off in a swords-and-dragons direction like the main series. Basically, Adventure Island 1 was a rebadged port of Wonderboy, made by Westone for Hudson. Retronauts did an episode on the relationship between Wonderboy and Adventure Island recently, which was quite a good listen. The other one is Wonderboy III: Monster Lair, and was released on the Mega Drive and PC Engine at least - maybe the Master System too? ![]() The Amiga one was Wonderboy in Monsterland (aka Wonderboy 2), albeit called Super Wonderboy on most home formats. I seem to remember that this one was basically a horizontally scrolling shootemup in places, maybe you grew wings, or flew on a dragon?Īnyone remember the names of the versions I played? This one was back to the forced-scrolling format of the original, but a generation ahead, graphics-wise, with big cartoon characters and animation. I never saw this one released on any of the home systems as far as I know. Am I right in thinking that this was a different series or something, which got given a Wonderboy facelift for the western markets?Īnother one - which I also think might have been Wonderboy 3, was also in the arcades - which I spent just as long watching the attract sequence on as I did playing the game, because it was very pretty. I remember that this was totally different from the first game, and had a lot of RPG elements. I'd seen it in the arcades before but not played it, as far as I remember.Īnother one - which might have been Wonderboy 3? On the Amiga. The original, which I played on my Spectrum after YS gave it away for free. ![]() ![]() There are 3 Wonderboy games which stick in my memory. ![]()
